We offer many elective courses during the senior year to best serve each student’s individual needs and goals. Students with well-defined career goals and those who are still in the process of choosing a specific area to focus on have a wide assortment of electives to choose from. Most courses are two or four weeks in duration.

Students are also encouraged to approach faculty members for the development of unique courses.

Course Description: Prerequisites: Successful completion of 3rd year. Course Description: The purpose of the elective is to teach the appropriate use of Radiology as a diagnostic tool, as well as to teach the fundamentals of X-ray interpretation. This will involve all areas of diagnostic radiology and will provide the student with a base of information of great use to him or her during postgraduate education and practice. PLEASE NOTE: THIS COURSE IS OFFERED FOR 4 WEEKS ONLY AND CANNOT BE SPLIT BETWEEN TWO PERIODS.
Educational Objectives: The student will demonstrate the ability to: 1. Describe the complexity of diagnostic imaging including an understanding of the types of studies which are available and the information they can provide. 2. Define the clinical indications for obtaining studies, the relative risk/benefit of radiologic procedures and the basic technical aspects of how examinations are performed. 3. Explain the diagnostic limitations of imaging studies and how these parameters affect patient care. 4. Interpret the differences between, and interactions among, each of the imaging specialties and the operation of these radiologic subspecialties in the context of modern radiologic and medical practice.

Teaching Sessions /Conferences: Lectures in General Radiology given by faculty and residents. Small group sessions with faculty and residents.
