Albany Med Health System

Members of the System include Albany Medical Center, Albany Medical College, Columbia Memorial Health, Glens Falls Hospital, Saratoga Hospital, and the Visiting Nurses. Students and residents can train in several of these facilities for a varying experience in hospital demographics.

Albany Medical Center

Albany Medical Center provides our community with the highest level of patient care across disciplines, while receiving regional, national and international recognition for high standards in patient care, education and biomedical research.

The anchor of the Albany Med Health System, Albany Medical Center has a 766-bed hospital, which offers the widest range of medical and surgical services as well as a physician practice of more than 500 doctors. As the only academic medical center within a 150-mile radius, Albany Medical Center ensures access to medical and technological innovations for the region's three million people.

Busiest Emergency Department in NYS
The Emergency Department and Level 1 Trauma Center at Albany Medical Center is the busiest in New York State, with more than 75,000 patient visits each year.

The Massry Family Children’s Emergency Center
The Center is the only dedicated pediatric emergency department in northeastern New York and western New England. Albany Medical Center is verified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.

The Bernard & Millie Duker Children's Hospital
The children's hospital is located at Albany Medical Center and includes a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, the highest level Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a child cancer and blood disorders center, and pediatric services including surgery, trauma, perinatal outreach, general pediatrics, and more.

Modern Patient Care Facilities
With six-story Patient Pavilion is equipped with hybrid operating rooms and intensive care units, including the region's only neuro and vascular ICUs. The patient-centered facility focuses the broadest range of medical and surgical specialties in northeastern New York.

Columbia Memorial Health

Map of the Albany Med Health System with Columbia memorial Health highlighted.This Hudson Valley community hospital is comprised of a 192-bed acute care hospital in Hudson and more than 40 primary care specialty care centers throughout Columbia, Greene, and Dutchess counties. Columbia Memorial Health provides services to more than 110,000 residents, with a focus on primary care, health education, rural health care delivery, and advanced surgery.

Glens Falls Hospital

Map of Albany Med Health System with Glens Falls Hospital highlighted.This community hospital serves patients across five counties in an area that spans 6,000 square miles of New York's Adirondack Mountains region. The Glens Falls Hospital campus is home to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, the Joyce Stock Snuggery Childbirth Center, a Wound Healing Center, and more. More than 20 regional facilities provide an array of specialized medical and surgical services. Glens Falls Hospital has a medical staff of more than 460 providers. The Emergency Department at Glens Falls Hospital often cares for patients who have had skiing or hiking accidents or other mishaps in the Adirondacks, giving students an up-close look at wilderness emergency medicine techniques.

Saratoga Hospital

Its more than 450 physicians and other medical professionals provide care at more than 20 locations in a broad range of medical specialties, from urgent care to primary care to imaging, pain management, bariatrics, diabetes care, and more.

More Training Facilities

Samuel S. Stratton Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center
This modern hospital has 401 beds and is a teaching hospital with a wide variety of sophisticated equipment and facilities. The staff is comprised of full-time physicians who have faculty appointments at Albany Medical College. They are selected and approved by a Dean's Committee of the Medical College. Second-, third- and fourth-year medical students receive part of their clinical instruction at the VA hospital.

Capital District Psychiatric Center
Albany Medical College has cooperative agreements with the Capital District Psychiatric Center (CDPC), a facility of the New York State Office of Mental Health, located adjacent to the College. The CDPC adds substantially to the teaching and research capabilities of the College in psychiatry and related fields. Many of the CDPC professional staff hold faculty appointments at Albany Medical College. The Psychiatric Center serves as the state psychiatric hospital for Albany and eight surrounding counties. It provides a clinical setting for research and education in psychiatry.

Ambulatory Care Sites
A network of community physicians in Albany, Schenectady, and Troy serve the ambulatory care educational needs. This includes the Whitney Young Health Center in Albany, which is dedicated to providing affordable, accessible, high quality, innovative medical, dental and addiction services regardless or income or insurance. Students also work with physicians in the surrounding counties and beyond for required and elective experiences such as the Hudson Headwaters Health Network which provides care in the Adirondack, Lake George, and Glens Falls communities.
