We offer many elective courses during the senior year to best serve each student’s individual needs and goals. Students with well-defined career goals and those who are still in the process of choosing a specific area to focus on have a wide assortment of electives to choose from. Most courses are two or four weeks in duration.

Students are also encouraged to approach faculty members for the development of unique courses.

Course Description: Prerequisite: Successful completion of 3rd year. Elective Description: Experience includes inpatient consults and rouding with ID team daily, review of patients' tests in microbiology lab, reading of Peds ID related topics. If time permits, may see outpatients if interested.
Educational Objectives: The student will demonstrate the ability to: 1. Plan an approach to evaluate patients with possible infectious diseases and form a differential diagnosis. 2. Conduct an appropriate history and physical, gather data and present these along with assessment and plan; learn to document these in the note. 3. Consult appropriate resources and conduct literature searches to answer clinical questions. 4. Present a case to the infectious diseases faculty.
Types of Patients: Infants to young adults with a wide range of acuity and pathology
Teaching Sessions /Conferences: Inpatient rounds daily (Monday through Friday), attendance at Pediatric Grand Rounds and other conferences, attendance at other ID related conferences, teaching sessions with attending
