We offer many elective courses during the senior year to best serve each student’s individual needs and goals. Students with well-defined career goals and those who are still in the process of choosing a specific area to focus on have a wide assortment of electives to choose from. Most courses are two or four weeks in duration.

Students are also encouraged to approach faculty members for the development of unique courses.

Course Description: Prerequisites: Successful completion of Pediatrics Clerkship
Educational Objectives: 1. Become comfortable with the pediatric behavioral observations and physical exam 2. Become familiar with common pediatrics developmental and behavioral conditions (i.e. ADHD, ASD, GDD) 3. Become familiar with mental health screening assessments and requirements for diagnosis using the DSM-V 4. Complete a new patient intake to discern what patients should be referred to DBP vs. alternate specialties and why. In addition to having a good understanding of what prerequisite information on the patient is most useful in these referrals.
Types of Patients: A range of pediatric patients from birth to 21 years of age with concerns for abnormal development or underlying behavioral health struggles. There is a large mix of SES, foster children, those exposed to substances in utero, genetic and neurological conditions, and resultant condition of those exposed to trauma early in life.
