We offer many elective courses during the senior year to best serve each student’s individual needs and goals. Students with well-defined career goals and those who are still in the process of choosing a specific area to focus on have a wide assortment of electives to choose from. Most courses are two or four weeks in duration.

Students are also encouraged to approach faculty members for the development of unique courses.

Course Description: Special Requirements: Students must have permission of instructor prior to registering for this course. Students will have weekly contact, starting on day one of the rotation, with their mentor who is overseeing their research project. Course Description: This 4-week elective is required for all students who participate in the Bioethics Distinction Program and students may sign up for this elective during Periods 1-8 only. The objective of this election is to focus on a bioethical topic and to write a 4,000-5,000 word research paper ready for submission to a professional journal by the end of the elective. Topics must be preapproved by the instructor before registering. PLEASE NOTE: THIS COURSE QUALIFIES AS A NON-CLINICAL ELECTIVE. ADDITIONALLY, STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THE ELECTIVE COURSE REQUIREMENTS IN THE SAME TIMEFRAME FOR WHICH THEY ARE OFFICIALLY REGISTERED FOR THE COURSE.
Educational Objectives: The student will: Become knowledgeable about a topic of special interest in bioethics, and, with guidance from a faculty mentor, produce a scholarly manuscript ready for submission to a medical or bioethics journal.
