We offer many elective courses during the senior year to best serve each student’s individual needs and goals. Students with well-defined career goals and those who are still in the process of choosing a specific area to focus on have a wide assortment of electives to choose from. Most courses are two or four weeks in duration.

Students are also encouraged to approach faculty members for the development of unique courses.

Course Name: Infectious Disease

Course Description: Prerequisite: Successful completion of 3rd year. Course Description: A thorough exposure to clinical infectious diseases, based on hospital consultations, antibiotic stewardship, and infection prevention. Will be exposed to comprehensive antibiotic review, gain competence in performance of a through consultation for many surgical and medical conditions.
Educational Objectives: The student will demonstrate the ability to: 1. Select appropriate antibiotics for specific disease processes. 2. Describe common microbiology laboratory methods. 3. Develop broad experience in performing a ID consultation.
Types of Patients: Adult patients with endocarditis (IVDU), surgical infections, immunosuppression, post-trauma infections.
Teaching Sessions /Conferences: Ambulatory Case Conference -Mondays @ noon; Grand Rounds-Tuesdays @ 8am; Individual one-on-one teaching with Dr. Sanders.
