We offer many elective courses during the senior year to best serve each student’s individual needs and goals. Students with well-defined career goals and those who are still in the process of choosing a specific area to focus on have a wide assortment of electives to choose from. Most courses are two or four weeks in duration.

Students are also encouraged to approach faculty members for the development of unique courses.

Course Description: Prerequisite: Successful completion of 3rd year. Course Description: Our Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Ambulatory rotation is designed to offer the opportunity for medical students to participate in the care of both pediatric and adult patients in a busy academic primary care practice. Students will be able to work one on one with our attending physicians as well as work with our Med/Peds residency practice. The experience will highlight the importance of having combined training. Students will see everything from common bread and butter primary care visits to patients with complex pathophysiology being diligently managed as an outpatient. This elective is designed and reserved for students interested in a Med/Peds residency.
Educational Objectives: The student will demonstrate the ability to: 1. Assess and manage common problems as well as complex pathophysiology encountered in the outpatient setting in the continuity clinic. 2. Develop the knowledge base fundamentals to the diagnosis and management of problems commonly encountered in a Med/Peds office setting. 3. Develop a logical and appropriate clinical approach to the care of patients in an outpatient setting, applying principles of decision making and problem solving. 4. Function as part of a multidisciplinary team. 5. Interact within the health care system, utilizing available resources in order to provide care. 6. Model professional behaviors in patient interactions.
