Family Medicine Residency

Our three-year, ACGME-accredited Family Medicine Program incorporates community, hospital, practice, and educational resources to provide the best possible preparation for a successful career in family medicine.

Broad Experience, Supportive Environment, Role-Model Faculty, Holistic Care

As a program, we believe providing quality health care is a basic human right. We collaborate with our patients and community using trauma-informed practices to partner with individuals and families through their life cycle. We believe the non-academic, humanistic aspects of physician-hood are best learned through the development of close personal and professional relationships with role-model faculty, who are actively involved in practice, teaching, and advising. We believe in a work environment that fosters personal growth and teamwork with respect for diversity. Our program commits itself to diversity, equity, and inclusion in recruiting faculty and staff that reflect the varied community we serve.

Highlights of our program include:

  • Training in both academic and community hospital environments
  • Combined residency and faculty clinic with collegial precepting
  • Care for diverse marginalized populations including refugees, immigrants, and urban and rural underserved groups
  • Osteopathic Recognition
  • Fellowship opportunities at Albany Medical Center include Geriatric Medicine and Primary Care Sports Medicine
  • Robust obstetric and pediatric curriculum
  • Full-scope reproductive health care with a strong association with our local Planned Parenthood; we are a RHEDI program.
  • Gender Affirming Care
  • Medication Assisted Treatment for patients with substance use disorders and chronic pain

Daniel North, DO Quote
In medical school, I learned to look beyond a diagnosis to see each patient as a unique individual. This is a philosophy that I will carry with me throughout my career. I am proud to be a family medicine physician and look forward to helping patients, families and the community.”
