Benefits
Fellows are eligible for individual or family medical, dental and vision insurance programs offered to Saratoga Hospital employees, with coverage commencing on the first day of employment. Any applicable premiums for which the fellow will be responsible will be paid by the fellow via payroll deduction. If the fellow waives participation in Saratoga Hospital’s medical insurance benefit coverage, the fellow must provide proof of alternative medical insurance coverage and maintain such coverage throughout the term of this agreement.

Fellows are also eligible for the following additional benefits in accordance with the Saratoga Hospital Employee Handbook and other policies and procedures applicable with New York State law, as in effect from time to time: New York State Disability benefits, supplemental short-term disability benefits, long-term disability insurance, life insurance, 403(b) Plan, and Employee Assistance Program.
Saratoga Hospital Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship benefits are provided through Saratoga Hospital and may differ from those at Albany Medical College. Salaries are the same as all Albany Medical College fellows.

Facilities

Saratoga Hospital

  • A community based acute care hospital, that is a part of the Albany Med Health System
  • Saratoga Hospital Medical Group provides care at over 30 locations
  • The inpatient experience will provide fellows with intensive, team-based training in caring for hospitalized patients with serious illness across medical, surgical, and critical care units. The rotation emphasizes complex symptom management, high-stakes communication, care coordination, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Palliative Care at Saratoga Hospital

  • A part of the Saratoga Hospital Medical Group. Located at Saratoga Park Place at Wilton.
  • Fellows will get a comprehensive, longitudinal experience caring for patients with serious illness in an ambulatory setting. This rotation emphasizes continuity, interdisciplinary collaboration, proactive symptom management, and goal-aligned care planning.
  • Home visits are eligible for patients based on mobility and level of illness.

The Bernard and Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center

  • The only pediatric hospital in the New York State Capital Region
  • Fellows will work alongside pediatric palliative care physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, and chaplains.
  • This rotation will focus on consultations for children with life limiting conditions including cancer, genetic syndromes, and neurologic disorders.
  • There will also be experience at the ambulatory clinic.

Community Hospice

  • Fellows will gain invaluable experience in hospice home care through rotations with the Community Hospice of Saratoga County under the guidance of board-certified Hospice and Palliative Medicine physicians.
  • Within their interdisciplinary teams, fellows will conduct home visits to assess and manage symptoms, as well as become knowledgeable in the state and Federal hospice regulations and the Medicare Hospice Benefit.

Long Term Care at Wesley

  • Fellows will learn how to perform a comprehensive assessment, participate in interdisciplinary care planning, manage, and coordinate care across settings, and have some continuity for changing goals, needs, and/or interventions.
