This one-year program provides extensive training in pain management using a multidisciplinary curriculum that offers opportunities in clinical services, research, and independent learning.

Message from the Program Director

On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Department of Neurology at Albany Medical Center, I would like to thank you for your interest in our Pain Medicine Fellowship. This is a one-year, ACGME-accredited fellowship. The mission of the Pain Medicine Fellowship at Albany Medical Center is to provide comprehensive training in acute, chronic, and interventional pain management. The Pain Medicine fellow will acquire the medical knowledge and technical skills necessary to independently practice pain medicine in a safe and effective manner through a multidisciplinary education process. These goals are realized through directed study, independent learning, clinical service rotations and subspecialty experiences guided by a faculty devoted to graduate medical education. It is expected that graduates of this training program will attain certification by the American Board of Pain Medicine.

We offer:

  • A diverse clinical exposure at a 766-bed hospital
  • The most up-to-date monitoring and treatment paradigms for pain patients
  • Congenial environment among faculty, fellows and residents in all disciplines
  • Strong commitment to teaching
  • Interest and commitment to research

If you are seeking a pain fellowship with a devoted faculty interested in the education of its trainees and a program that combines academic excellence with a supportive and collegial environment, then the Albany Medical Center Pain Medicine Fellowship may be the program for you!

Benjamin Portal quote
I was looking for a fellowship that provided a wide variety of cases as well as attendings and colleagues I would enjoy working with. I am extremely pleased I am at Albany Medical Center for my Chronic Pain fellowship, where I am given the appropriate autonomy to develop my critical thinking and procedural skills with the amazing support of mentors to help achieve my goals.”
