Xiang Yu, PhD

Clinical Ethics Fellow 2023-24

Xiang Yu, PhDDr. Yu is a clinical ethics fellow at the Alden March Bioethics Institute. She obtained a PhD in Philosophy from The Ohio State University in 2022. Before coming to Albany Medical College, she was a clinical ethics intern at Baylor College of Medicine and an adjunct professor at Muskingum University.

Dr. Yu’s research focuses on wellbeing (especially issues relating to desires), psychiatric disorders, and medical decision-making capacity. She is interested in thinking about whether depression deprives one of desires, whether pathological desires such as an anorexic patient’s desire not to eat are relevant to a person’s wellbeing, and whether a desire to withdraw life-sustaining treatment due to an adjustment disorder indicates a lack of decision-making capacity.

Her work has been published in Utilitas.
