Nedah Nemati, PhD
Assistant Professor , Alden March Bioethics Institute
Dr. Nemati received her PhD in History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Pittsburgh and her MSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Prior to joining the Alden March Bioethics Institute faculty, she was the Robert A. Burt Presidential Scholar in Society and Neuroscience at Columbia University.
Dr. Nemati’s research bridges philosophy, neuroscience, and biology. As a lab-based philosopher of neuroscience, she examines how scientists develop their understandings of behavior and cognition through experimental models, tools, and emerging technologies. Her current projects include interrogating the use of AI to decode and categorize animal behavior, as well as furthering comparative studies of behavior and cognition in evolutionary neurobiology. Her work is currently supported by a National Science Foundation grant, “Scientific Outcomes from AI Tools and Models.”
In addition to her role at AMBI, Dr. Nemati is Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Albany, SUNY, as well as a Project Affiliate at the International Brain Laboratory (IBL).
