Internationally Recognized Expert on Interventional Nephrology Joins Staff
ALBANY, N.Y., August 6, 2012—Arif Asif, MD, an internationally recognized expert on interventional nephrology, has been named chief of nephrology and hypertension at Albany Medical Center.
Dr. Asif has published hundreds of journal articles, book chapters and abstracts and is the lead author of the recently published first textbook on interventional nephrology. Interventional nephrology is a subspecialty of nephrology that uses ultrasound for kidney biopsy, insertion of dialysis catheters and for treating dialysis patients using various endovascular procedures.

A member and past president of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology, Dr. Asif served most recently as professor of medicine and director of the Interventional Nephrology Program at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine in Florida.
Dr. Asif, who is board certified in both internal medicine and nephrology, completed a fellowship in nephrology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Jackson Memorial Hospital. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He completed his residency in pediatric surgery at Mayo Hospital, King Edward Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan. He earned his medical degree from Punjab Medical College, University of the Punjab, Failsalabad, Pakistan.
