Annual HIV Clinical Care Symposium


This year, The HIV and AIDS Treatment Center at Albany Med be hosting the 14th Annual HIV and Clinical Care Symposium (Tuesday and Wednesday, June 4th and 5th, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. . The symposium will feature guest speakers and current topics.

Changes occur rapidly in the fields of HIV and Hepatology. This course is designed to provide practitioners with the most up-to-date clinical information on a variety of topics to assist in their care of patients living with HIV and/or Hepatitis C. Presentation formats include didactic sessions and interactive case presentations, followed by subsequent question and answer periods.

The symposium will be of interest to physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, pharmacists, social workers, mental health practitioners, and case managers who care for those infected with HIV and Hepatitis C.

After attending the course, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the current standards of care for initial and subsequent treatment of HIV infection.
  • Discuss the relationship between HIV and bone disease.
  • List antiretroviral medications which can currently be used safely with the new Hepatitis C protease inhibitors.
  • Interpret parameters of resistance tests and when resistance testing is indicated.
  • Describe the treatment considerations for adolescents infected with HIV.
  • Recognize the indications for a diagnosis of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

 

CME ACCREDITATION

Albany Medical College is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Albany Medical College designates this live activity for a maximum of 11.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS

AAPA accepts Category I credit for AOACCME, Prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA Category I CME credit for the PRA from organizations accredited by ACCME.

NURSING ACCREDITATION

This learning activity is provided by the Albany Medical Center Nursing Continuing Education Provider Unit.

The Albany Medical Center is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

This learning activity will be awarded up to 11.00 of continuing nursing education (CNE) hours.

TUITION

Physicians $180 (by May 17) and $200 (after May 17)

Residents & Other Health Professionals $80 (by May 17) and $100 (after May 17)

Tuition includes the conference registration, continental breakfast, breaks and lunch each day and available course material. A special rate for attending one day is not available.
