A Lifeline to Our College

Fund Supports Education and Research

Kevin Roberts, MD, ’77, has always believed in the mission, vision and values of Albany Medical Center. In fact, the Department of Anesthesiology chairman’s belief is so deep that he supports those goals with his own funds.

“I’ve been an attending physician here since 1980,” Dr. Roberts said. “It was during the capital campaign in mid-1980 that I really started to plan my giving, and I’ve continued ever since.”

Kevin Roberts, MD, '77, uses employee payroll deduction to assist him in his giving plan.

Dr. Roberts, a long-time member of the Albany Medical College Alumni Association, has supported the Alumni Fund, the association, the Dean’s Scholarship Fund and the David Goodman Scholarship Fund, among others. But his primary focus is his own department.

“A good portion of my giving in the last 10 to 15 years has been to a fund I created called the Chair’s Discretionary Fund,” Dr. Roberts said. “That fund provides support for scholarship and education within our department, affording additional opportunities for continuing education, research and mission work. Those things are very important for the department and the hospital.”

The fund also provides start-up support for involvement in larger, multi-center research projects.

Through payroll deduction and effective tax planning, he is able to make his gift go farther. It’s a message he happily shares with others seeking to make a difference with their giving.

“Planful giving provides a benefit to everyone,” Dr. Roberts said. “While hospitals run on funds from care provided to patients, additional support is always needed. That’s where philanthropy can really support our mission."
