Dr. Richard Agag is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Due to his extensive training he performs a wide variety of reconstructive plastic surgery procedures ranging from breast reconstruction after mastectomy, to complex head and neck cancer reconstruction to pediatric plastic surgery including cleft lip and palate repair. He also performs a multitude of cosmetic procedures including breast augmentation, breast lifts, tummy tucks, facelifts, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, liposuction and fat grafting.
Dr. Agag has a special interest in breast reconstruction. Because he is fellowship trained in microsurgery he is able to offer all current options in breast reconstruction to his patients. This includes the DIEP (deep inferior epigastric artery perforator), TUG (transverse upper gracilis), and IGAP (inferior gluteal artery perforator) flaps as well as both two-stage tissue expander/implant and one-stage direct to implant reconstruction. Dr. Agag works together closely with the breast surgeons at Albany Medical Center and his patients to determine what is the best reconstruction for the patient’s specific situation.
Dr. Agag did his general surgery and plastic surgery training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He then continued his training at the University of Pennsylvania where he did a fellowship in microsurgical reconstruction. In 2010 Dr. Agag was named the Jerome P. Webster Fellow by the non-profit organization ReSurge International (formerly Interplast). The fellowship, granted to just one newly trained plastic surgeon annually, gave him the opportunity to spend a year providing reconstructive surgeries including cleft lip and palate, hand surgery, and burn reconstruction to children in Africa, Asia, and South America. During this year he also had the opportunity to spend time working with world-renowned plastic surgeons in Europe, Taiwan, and the United States.
