Area Businessman Receives High Honor from Albany Med

ALBANY, N.Y., June 10, 2014 - John D. Picotte has received one of Albany Medical Center's highest honors-the Pillars Award-in recognition of four decades of significant contributions to Albany Medical Center through a combination of service and philanthropy.
James J. Barba, president and chief executive officer of Albany Med, said, "John Picotte has provided wise counsel and formidable leadership in the best of times and the most trying. He has given Albany Medical Center his talents, tenacity, exquisite style, thoughtful approach and generous support. He has never faltered in his commitment to ensure the availability of expert health care in our region."
The Pillars Award is given annually to individuals who epitomize the spirit of the Medical Center and whose contributions reflect the community-based nature of its mission.
Picotte, chair of The Picotte Companies based in Albany, has served on Albany Med's board in many capacities, including as director and emeritus director, since 1971. He served as co-chair of the highly successful ,Pillars' fundraising campaign from 2000-2004, the largest fundraising initiative undertaken by any health care institution in the region.
Picotte is currently a member of the honorary committee of the Medical Center's Lifeline Campaign. He was awarded an honorary degree from Albany Medical College in 2011.
The Picotte Companies, a real estate development and property management firm, is a consistent annual sponsor of Albany Med's Dancing in the Woods fundraiser for the child cancer program.
Picotte is also president and founder of the Equinox Foundation and a trustee of the Picotte Family Foundation, which supported Albany Med's new Patient Pavilion by naming the Picotte Family Foundation Cardiac Surgical Suite.
Picotte has supported numerous other organizations throughout the Capital Region as an active member of boards of directors and through his generous philanthropy.
