ALBANY, N.Y., April 10, 2013 ‹ Neonatologist Meredith Monaco-Brown, M.D., has joined the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center and has been appointed assistant professor of pediatrics at Albany Medical College.

Board-certified in pediatrics and board-eligible in neonatology, Dr. Monaco-Brown was fellowship trained in neonatal-perinatal medicine at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, where she also served her residency.

Dr. Monaco-Brown has a particular interest in neonatal hyperoxia, or excess oxygen to the brain in newborns. She began to research the damage incurred by brain cells from exposure to the higher oxygen levels during her fellowship at St. Christopher's.

The information gleaned from that research is currently being prepared for publication. She has presented her preliminary findings at conferences in the United States and Canada with plans to continue this and other types of translational investigation while at Albany Med.

A graduate of Niskayuna High School, she received her medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Services from Cornell University.

Dr. Monaco-Brown currently resides in Albany with her husband and their daughter.
