Dr. Natasha Shur Named Head of Pediatric Genetics at Children’s Hospital

ALBANY, N.Y., Jan. 10, 2014 - Natasha Shur, M.D., has joined the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center as head of the Division of Genetics in the Department of Pediatrics. She is the region's only pediatric geneticist.

Dr. Shur, who will also hold the title of assistant professor of pediatrics at Albany Medical College, comes from Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, RI. While at Hasbro, she received the "Brite Lite" award, an honor for which she was nominated by her patients for excellence in patient care. She also earned the Dean's teaching award for four consecutive years.

Board certified in pediatrics and genetics, Dr. Shur received her fellowship training and earned her medical degree at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in the Bronx. She served a residency at The Children's Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center and an internship at Tufts-New England Medical Center.

Along with all areas of inherited diseases, Dr. Shur specializes in dysmorphology - the study of the cause of birth defects and developmental issues. She has also done extensive work in the area of autism, seizures and neurological disorders. 

A member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, she has published, presented and reviewed dozens of papers on a variety of topics in pediatric genetics. Additionally, she edited a Seminar of Medical Genetics issue on the genetics of twinning, working with experts from around the country.

Dr. Shur lives in Loudonville with her husband Alex and their two children.
