Close to $6 Million in Government Grants Fund Heart/Lung & Cancer Research

May 21, 2012—Researchers at Albany Medical College’s Center for Cardiovascular Sciences (CCS) have recently received close to $6 million in National Institutes of Health grants to fund research related to the basic workings of the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems, especially as it relates to cardiovascular disease and lung disease such as asthma.

OB/GYN with Expertise in Bioethics Joins Albany Medical College

December 6, 2011—Paul Burcher, M.D., Ph.D., has joined Obstetrics and Gynecology at Albany Medical Center and has been appointed assistant professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Albany Medical College. In addition, he will serve as assistant professor at the Alden March Bioethics Institute at Albany Medical College.

Albany Med-Led Brain Mapping Research Showcased at International Workshop
November 9, 2011 - Some of the world’s top scientists, neurologists and neurosurgeons will convene this week at the 3rd Annual International Workshop on Advances in Electrocorticography, hosted by Albany Medical College and the New York State Department of Health’s Wadsworth Center. The conference takes place this Thursday and Friday in Washington, D.C.
Albany Medical College Unveils New Simulation Center

October 10, 2011—A new medical simulation facility unveiled today at Albany Medical College will transform medical education in the region. The 12,000 square-foot Patient Safety and Clinical Competency Center (PSCCC) incorporates lifelike computerized mannequins and other virtual technologies, simulated hospital settings such as operating rooms and intensive care units, as well as trained actors, to portray real medical conditions. In this environment, medical students, residents and other health care providers can receive hands-on training in a safe and controlled environment before treating patients.

Urologist Recognized Nationally for Work in Pediatric Research
September 7, 2011—Barry Kogan, M.D., professor and chief of the division of urology at Albany Medical College, has received the American Urological Association Foundation’s prestigious 2011 John W. Duckett Pediatric Urology Research Excellence Award.
