Albany Medical Center was awarded the maximum five-year accreditation status in 2012 by Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME.)
ACGME is the major regulatory body which oversees graduate medical training programs to ensure quality training results for physicians trained in the United States. Compliance with the ACGME's requirements is measured through periodic review of all programs and their sponsors.
It is my sincere pleasure to introduce you to the Graduate Medical Education programs at Albany Medical Center. As residents and fellows play such significant roles in the Medical Center's three-pronged mission of quality patient care, biomedical research and medical education, we are proud to offer training programs that graduate physicians in 38 ACGME-accredited programs and in a number of independently sponsored programs.
Albany Medical College educates medical students, master's and doctoral students, and nurse anesthetists. Faculty members participate in research that is supported by a number of prestigious grants from the National Institutes of Health and other organizations. As a member of our medical education community, you, as a resident, will have opportunities to interact with approximately 446 residents and fellows, 550 medical students, nearly 400 full-time attending physicians and 600 other area physicians. You will be an integral part of the health care team that provides superior patient care to our diverse patient body. You will have representation on the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, the Graduate Medical Education Council, the Chief Resident Council and other key committees in the Hospital and College.
As one of the nation's most advanced Emergency Care Centers, Albany Medical Center boasts a state-of-the-art regional trauma center and Children's Hospital.
