Dr. Renee Samelson is one of only a few physicians in the country to have board certifications by the American Board of Preventative Medicine in public health and general preventive medicine, as well as board certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in OB/GYN and sub-specialty certification in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

Prior to her ob-gyn training, Dr. Samelson and her husband established a community run primary care clinic in West Virginia. Her clinical specialties include high risk obstetrics, oral health and pregnancy, prenatal diagnosis, and perinatal HIV and other infectious diseases.

One of Dr. Samelson’s many strengths is her ability to treat patients with complex needs, such women who have previously had difficult pregnancies with poor outcomes or women who have multiple medical conditions including diabetes, hypertension, and autoimmune diseases. When treating patients, Dr. Samelson utilizes a compassionate, yet pragmatic approach.

Dr. Samelson’s public policy work has included participation in development of New York State Department of Health guidelines for management of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, perinatal HIV, and oral health care during pregnancy.  She also served on the HRSA  funded  committee which produced The National Consensus Statement on Oral health Care during Pregnancy.
