Oluwaseun Adetayo, M.D. is a board certified plastic surgeon who manages the full spectrum of pediatric and adult plastic surgery with additional expertise on pediatric plastic surgery. Dr. Adetayo is the section chief of pediatric plastic surgery.
Dr. Adetayo graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Bachelors of Science with Honors in Computer Science (B. Sc (Hons.)) and added minors in Biochemistry and Mathematics from Eastern Michigan University. During her undergraduate education, she received various awards including the Outstanding International Students Award, Black Student’s Academic Achievement Award, the Honors Undergraduate Research Award, and the competitive Senior Achievement Award for Academic Excellence in Computer Science awarded to a single graduating senior that exemplified and achieved the highest academic excellence in Computer Science.
Dr. Adetayo then completed her medical education at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine where she received her medical degree. During this time, she again received several awards, including the Harvard Visiting Clerkship Program Scholar Award given by Harvard Medical School to spend a month at their institution during her final year at the University of Chicago. She also received several additional recognitions and awards during her medical education including the Ultman Family Scholars Award, Dr. William F. and Erma Borchers Scholars Award, and the University of Chicago Prizker Scholars Award.
Dr. Adetayo then went on to complete her Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center. During this time, she received various clinical recognition and written commendation from the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital and Kaiser Permanente Hospitals. She was also the recipient of several awards including the Frank R. Rogers, MD MBA Academic Achievement Award, and was a two-time winner of the J.K. Hardesty MD Best Resident Paper Award given to the resident presenting the best scientific paper amongst all the California medical schools at the California Society of Plastic Surgeons Annual Meeting.
Following this, Dr. Adetayo completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh., where she also served in the role of Clinical Instructor in which she was involved with medical students and residents’ teaching and education. During her Fellowship, Dr Adetayo was invited as a book chapter contributor to the second edition of the textbook,Comprehensive Cleft Care, which is one of the few leading volumes on cleft and craniofacial disorders. She was also invited to write a chapter for the Family Companion Guide to cleft care. Both of these works are currently in press.
Dr. Adetayo has served in various leadership positions including Chairperson of the Long Beach Rescue Mission, Co-President of the Phi Delta Epsilon Premedical Society, Co-President of the Pritzker REMEDY Cuba Medical Aid Mission, and the Chicago Local Chapter Coordinator of the Adolescent Substance Abuse Prevention program for inner city Chicago students. She has been involved in various medical and surgical trips to various countries including Nigeria, Cuba, Haiti, and Peru. Along with her team, she was awarded a Diploma of Honor conferred by the President of the Congress of the Republic of Peru. She has worked with various international medical organizations including Rotary International, Komedyplast, and The Smile Train.
Dr. Adetayo has received over 20 awards, and her work has resulted in over 30 published works and over 50 presentations at national and regional meetings. Her published works include peer-reviewed publications in leading journals including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Cleft Palate Craniofacial Journal, Annals of Plastic Surgery, Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, and Journal of Neurosurgery and Pediatrics, published abstracts, and book chapters. She has been featured in various newspaper articles and audiovisuals including The Eastern Echo newspaper, The University of Chicago Chronicle, The University of Chicago Magazine, Medicine on the Midway, Albany Med Today, and Times UnionNewspaper.
