The Melodies Center is a proud member of the Children's Oncology Group (COG), the world's largest organization dedicated to childhood cancer research trials. We have to meet strict standards and are audited on every aspect of our clinical research every 3 years. Our membership of COG allows the Melodies Center to offer clinical research protocols for a variety of childhood cancer research trials so that families rarely have to travel outside the region to get access to experimental trials and agents.
All the pediatric oncologists at the Melodies Center are members of COG with funding from the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and the National Cancer Institute supporting our COG research program. Vikramjit Kanwar, MD, the director of the Melodies Center is also the Principal Investigator for COG for this Center, is active in leadership activities within COG, and is a scientific reviewer for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, devoting effort to improving overall outcomes in childhood cancer diagnoses.
Additionally, Alexander Gozman, MD, director of the late-effects program, is engaged in research to assess how the stresses of the completion of childhood cancer treatment affects patients, parents and caregivers of patients, and how that can be managed with the help of an "end of therapy" coordinator. The research is funded by a grant from Hyundai Hope on Wheels.
