Most Preferred Hospital 18th Consecutive Year

ALBANY, N.Y., Oct. 29, 2013 — For the 18th straight year, area residents have identified Albany Medical Center as their top choice for quality health care services with the Consumer Choice Award from the National Research Corporation. Albany Med is the only hospital in northeastern New York to receive this award.

“To be honored with this award every year is an incredible accomplishment shared by the entire staff here at the Medical Center,” said James J. Barba, president and chief executive officer of Albany Medical Center. “We are especially proud because the award comes from our community, to whom we pledge our continued commitment to excellence and focus on patient-centered care of the highest quality.”

The National Research Corporation annually gives Consumer Choice Awards for the most preferred hospitals in more than 300 U.S. markets based on surveys of households in each region. Winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings, including: best overall quality, best image and reputation, best doctors, and best nurses.

The National Research Corporation is an industry leader, with more than two decades of experience in health care performance measurement and improvement. The names of the Consumer Choice winners are published in this month’s Modern Healthcare magazine.

Albany Med is consistently recognized for providing high-quality care in numerous disciplines.  In recent months, the Medical Center has been designated one of the state’s three KARL STORZ Centers of Excellence in training students and professionals on the most advanced minimally invasive surgical procedures. It also achieved one of the highest rankings in the state for efforts to immunize newborns against the hepatitis B virus, and received the American Heart Association’s Silver Award for Resuscitation, the only hospital so honored in the Capital Region.

To continue to meet the needs of our community, Albany Medical Center this year unveiled a new state-of-the-art Patient Pavilion that provides advanced care for virtually every condition with leading-edge operating suites, enhanced intensive care units, and private rooms. The patient-centered facility enables the Medical Center, which serves as the trauma center for a 25-county region, to provide the most advanced technology and techniques in a patient-centered setting.

Albany Medical Center, northeastern New York’s only academic health sciences center, is one of the largest private employers in the Capital Region. It incorporates the 734-bed Albany Medical Center Hospital, which offers the widest range of medical and surgical services in the region, and the Albany Medical College, which trains the next generation of doctors, scientists and other healthcare professionals, and also includes a biomedical research enterprise and the region’s largest physicians practice with nearly 400 doctors. Albany Medical Center works with dozens of community partners to improve the region’s health and quality of life. For more information: www.amc.edu or www.facebook.com/albanymedicalcenter .
