Matthew Bender IV Receives Albany Med Pillars Award
ALBANY, N.Y., June 12, 2013 —Matthew Bender IV has received one of Albany Medical Center’s highest honors—the Pillars Award—in recognition of his work over more than four decades to support the Medical Center’s mission.
James J. Barba, president and chief executive officer of Albany Med, said, “Matthew Bender is a man whose mark on our community has been indelible. There is no one who has been, for such a sustained period of time, a greater friend to this city, this region and this state, as well as to this medical center.”
The Pillars Award is given annually by Albany Med to individuals who epitomize the spirit of the Medical Center and whose sustaining work and contributions reflect the essential community-based nature of its mission.
Barba said, “For more than 40 years, Albany Med and Albany Medical College have benefitted from Matt Bender’s service as a Director and Trustee. His ongoing leadership, his wise counsel and his generosity to this institution, during those years, has been truly remarkable.”
Bender, of Albany, has supported numerous organizations throughout the Capital Region as an active member of boards of directors and through his generous philanthropy.
