Gastroenterology Fellowship Training Program

Albany Medical Center
Albany, New York

Albany Medical Center is pleased to offer a three-year fellowship in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Clinical Nutrition. The Albany Medical Center Hospital is a major tertiary care hospital with a Level One Trauma Center, providing comprehensive medical care to a patient population of 2-3 million people in Upstate New York.

The Gastroenterology Fellowship is sponsored through the Albany Medical Center Hospital and the Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center, which are within a block of each other. Both hospitals care for a wide variety of uncomplicated and complicated GI, liver, biliary, and pancreatic diseases. The endoscopy facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, including ERCP, EUS, Medtronic motility system and wireless capsule endoscopy. In addition, we have a collaborative team of Interventional Radiologists, Surgeons, GI Pathologists, and GI Oncologists to enhance patient care and the fellows educational experience.

As a Gastroenterology fellow, you will evaluate and manage patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Fellows are expected to acquire extensive diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic skills. Research time is provided and fellows are expected to use this time to work on projects with faculty members for presentations at national meetings. In addition, elective time is available for the fellow to explore other areas of interest in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Clinical Nutrition.

During the three-year program there are numerous conferences to enhance the fellows education and training. Conferences include: topic reviews, clinical case conference, journal club, endoscopy conference, research conference, and GI tumor board.
