The Family Medicine Center, is a state-of-the-art facility complete with 18 exam rooms, three resident work rooms, a laboratory, a fully equipped room for office surgical procedures and casting, an urgent care isolation room and colposcopy room with private bathroom. Nutrition education and co-counseling are also offered. A computer system with a CD-ROM and educational software, as well as internet connection, is available for use by the residents and faculty. An electronic medical records system was implemented in November of 2005.
The Center sees more than 34,000 patients annually and has a staff consisting of medical assistants, full-time nurses, two nurse practitioners, a phlebotomist, numerous secretaries, receptionists, billing representatives, administrators, and medical records clerks. Additionally, the Center has a reception/registration area and a salt water fish tank.
The Center also has a large resident/preceptor room for discussing cases with the attending preceptor, pharmacy attending and/or social workers. The Albany College of Pharmacy maintains an office in our Center to provide residents, attendings and patients with drug information. The center is equipped with tympanometry and audiometry equipment, an EKG, OB and vascular dopplers, a pulmonary function testing machine, liquid nitrogen, a hyfrecator and full phlebotomy service. Rapid lab testing of urine for pregnancy, strep, urinalysis, and microscopic exam of slides can be performed within the Center. The Center has a library, lunch room, kitchen facilities with a dish washer, microwave and refrigerator.
The administrative offices of the Department of Family and Community Medicine are located on the first floor of the Family Medicine Center. This suite contains newly renovated administrative offices, classroom and residents room with computers and wireless capability.
