Neurosurgeon Tyler J. Kenning Joins Staff
ALBANY, N.Y., September 11, 2012—Tyler J. Kenning, M.D., has joined Albany Medical Center’s division of neurosurgery, and has been appointed assistant professor of surgery at Albany Medical College.
Dr. Kenning provides a comprehensive and tailored approach to the treatment of brain tumors, working with a multidisciplinary team of neuro-oncologists and radiation oncologists. He specializes in the treatment of disorders of the skull base, including pituitary tumors, meningiomas and cranial nerve disorders, and will be the only fellowship-trained endoscopic neurosurgeon in the region able to perform minimally invasive procedures for the treatment of pituitary tumors. He also is experienced in stereotactic radiosurgery, a non-invasive treatment of benign and malignant tumors that involves the directing of highly focused and extremely precise beams of ionizing radiation without requiring an incision.
His research interests include surgical techniques in skull base surgery, as well as outcomes research in head injury and spinal surgery. He has authored a number of articles that have been published by such prestigious sources as the Journal of Neurosurgery and the Journal of Neurooncology, as well as several book chapters. He has presented his research at local, state, and national neurosurgical meetings.
Dr. Kenning was fellowship trained in open and endoscopic skull base surgery, neuroendoscopy and stereotactic radiosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at Albany Medical Center, and received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.
He and his family reside in Delmar.
