Free Seminar Will Address Deep Brain Stimulation Therapy

Albany Medical Center neurosurgeon Julie Pilitsis, M.D., Ph.D., will discuss the benefits and risks of deep brain stimulation (DBS) therapy for the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease, tremor and dystonia at a free seminar Monday, Sept. 23 at noon at The Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Albany.

DBS is a surgical treatment involving the implantation of a medical device called a brain pacemaker which sends electrical impulses to specific parts of the brain. DBS has been shown to provide therapeutic benefits for otherwise treatment-resistant movement and affective disorders such as Parkinson's disease, tremor and dystonia.

Participants also will have an opportunity to share lunch with a patient who has been implanted with DBS.

Space is limited. To register, please call (518) 262-5314.
