Light Up the Night Raises More than $200,000 for Emergency Department
ALBANY, N.Y., July 31, 2012—More than $200,000 was raised at Albany Medical Center’s annual “Light Up the Night” — the largest amount ever for this fundraiser. Proceeds from the event benefit Albany Med’s Department of Emergency Medicine, which provides the highest level of emergency and trauma care as the region’s only state designated Level I trauma center.
All funds raised will go toward the purchase of the latest technologies in emergency medicine, and fund important education and research opportunities to keep physicians and staff abreast of developments in the field.
“We are grateful to our community for their increasing support of what has turned into a premiere summertime event,” said Christopher King, M.D., chair of emergency medicine at Albany Medical Center. “This critical support will assist us as we grow to meet the increasing needs of our community, and to continue to provide the high level trauma services found regionally only at Albany Medical Center.”
Light up the Night, held at Saratoga National Golf Club on Friday, July 13, was supported by more than 700 people. The evening featured food by Prime at Saratoga National, a fireworks display by Alonzo Fireworks, and music by the New York Players. For the sixth consecutive year, MVP Health Care was the title sponsor of the event.
Albany Med’s Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to respond to the emergency health care needs of the community. With more than 70,000 patient visits and over 4,000 transfers from community hospitals each year, Albany Med’s Emergency Department is one of the busiest trauma centers in New York State. Efforts such as the recent partnership with Saratoga Hospital to provide urgent care services in Malta are being designed to reduce overcrowding in emergency departments.
Albany Medical Center, northeastern New York’s only academic health sciences center, is one of the largest private employers in the Capital Region. It incorporates the 651-bed Albany Medical Center Hospital, which offers the widest range of medical and surgical services in the region, and the Albany Medical College, which trains the next generation of doctors, scientists and other healthcare professionals, and which also includes a biomedical research enterprise and the region’s largest physicians practice with 350 doctors. Albany Medical Center works with dozens of community partners to improve the region’s health and quality of life. For more information: www.amc.edu or www.facebook.com/albanymedicalcenter.
