Department of OB/GYN Awarded AIUM Ultrasound Practice Accreditation
ALBANY, N.Y., February 22, 2013—Albany Medical Center’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has been reaccredited by the Ultrasound Practice Council of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), recognizing the program’s technicians, physicians and procedures meet rigorous national standards. Albany Med’s program has been accredited by AIUM for more than 10 years.
Albany Med achieved this recognition by meeting meticulous guidelines in areas including training and qualifications of physicians and sonographers; ultrasound equipment maintenance; documentation; storage, and record-keeping practices; policies and procedures to protect patients and staff; quality assurance methods; and the thoroughness, technical quality and interpretation of the sonograms.
Albany Med’s OB/GYN practice performs approximately10,000 sonograms a year.
The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine is a multidisciplinary medical association of more than 9,200 physicians, sonographers, and scientists dedicated to advancing the safe and effective use of ultrasound in medicine through professional and public education, research, development of guidelines, and accreditation.
