Pediatric Surgeon Dr. Jessica Mills Joins Staff
ALBANY, N.Y., February 202013— Jessica Mills, M.D., has joined Albany Medical Center’s Department of Surgery and has been appointed assistant professor of surgery, in the division of pediatric surgery at Albany Medical College.
Board-certified in pediatric surgery, Dr. Mills received fellowship training in pediatric surgery at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She also served a residency in general surgery while at UBC.
Dr. Mills has a particular interest in using minimally invasive surgical techniques to treat pulmonary and abdominal conditions including congenital anomalies and infectious conditions. Her breadth of practice also includes management of head and neck conditions such as thyroid and parathyroid diseases and thyroglossal duct cysts as well as correction of hernias and undescended testicles.
While practicing at UBC, Dr. Mills was involved in university and community outreach programs including providing medical treatment to members of the First Nations community through the “Safe Smile” program, and visiting high schools to discuss careers in medicine. She also led a team of medical undergraduates in the production of a surgical education video.
Dr. Mills earned her medical degree and Bachelor of Science in biopsychology from UBC, where she graduated with honors. A Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, she currently resides with her family in Albany.
Additionally, Dr. Mills, a two-time All-Canadian basketball player, will be inducted into the University of British Columbia Hall of Fame this April.
