Pediatric Rheumatologist Joins Albany Medical Center

ALBANY, N.Y., January 5, 2012—Lilliana Barillas-Arias, M.D., a pediatric rheumatologist, has joined the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center and has been appointed associate professor of pediatrics at Albany Medical College.

As a pediatric rheumatologist, Dr. Barillas-Arias treats patients up to the age of 21 for a range of autoimmune conditions and rheumatologic diseases such as systemic lupus, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, and vasculitic syndromes.

She comes from the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York in New Hyde Park, where she served as assistant professor of pediatric rheumatology. She was fellowship trained at the Hospital for Special Surgery and Weill Cornell College of Medicine in New York, and completed a pediatric residency at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, where she served as chief resident. She received her medical degree from the University of Costa Rica.

Dr. Barillas-Arias is a member of several professional organizations including the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatologic Research Alliance and the American College of Rheumatology. She is board certified in pediatric rheumatology and pediatrics. She is fluent in Spanish and can read and write French.
