Christine L. Standish, president and former chairman of the J.S. Standish Company, a privately held investment and philanthropic company, has been named to the Albany Medical Center Board of Directors.
Standish, who is president of the Standish Family Foundation, has been a director of Albany International Corp. since 1997 and is active in many community organizations.
Her personal bond to the Medical Center dates back to care she received at Albany Med as a child.
“Like many in our region, I would not be here today if it weren’t for the talented doctors and nurses of Albany Medical Center,” Standish said. “I join the Board in hopes of somehow returning the favor by working to help the Medical Center fulfill its mission.”
“We are pleased to welcome Christine Standish to the Board of Directors,” Board Chairman Robert T. Cushing said. “Her intellect, experience and commitment to Albany Medical Center will enhance our ability to meet the health care needs of residents throughout the Capital Region and fulfill our important role in medical education and biomedical research.”
A resident of Loudonville, Standish was elected to the board of J.S. Standish Company in 1988. In 2003, she became president in charge of philanthropy, overseeing its donor-advised funds, including The Standish Family Fund at the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region, where she leads three generations of family members working together to enhance the area.
A trustee of Siena College, Standish also serves on the boards of directors of the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region and the Albany Symphony Orchestra. She was honored with a Trailblazers Award in 2013 from the Women’s Fund of the Capital Region. Standish holds a bachelor’s degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Ms. Standish is the second member of the family to serve Albany Medical Center. Her father, J. Spencer Standish, chairman emeritus of the board of Albany International Corp., served on the Albany Medical Center Board from 1984-1993.
