Dr. Clifford Honored for Work Helping People with HIV/AIDS, Donates Proceeds

George Clifford, PhD, MPA, practice administrator of the Albany Medical Center Department of Medicine and Division of HIV Medicine, was honored in January by CARES, Inc., with the Fr. John Lysogorski Community Leadership Award at its annual AIDSWalk Award Ceremony.

The 10th annual award from CARES (The Corporation for AIDS Research Education and Services) is given to a person in the community who exhibits energy and compassion in helping people with HIV/AIDS in the local community.

Dr. Clifford’s award came with $1,000 that can be dedicated to the charity of his choice. He chose to split the monies between Albany Med and PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support), an Albany Damien Center program that provides assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS and their pets when they need each other the most.

“Dr. Clifford is one of the founding members of our PAWS Advisory Committee,” said Perry Junjulas, executive director of the Albany Damien Center, who is living with AIDS. “In addition to serving on numerous boards and committees dedicated to HIV/AIDS and his considerable contributions through his work at the AIDS Program at Albany Medical Center, Dr. Clifford has also been a huge advocate and supporter of our efforts at the Albany Damien Center, for which we are very grateful.”
