Not surprisingly, Albany Med was in the forefront at the recent groundbreaking for the expansion of the Ronald McDonald House on nearby South Lake Avenue. Local dignitaries, volunteers, families and staff celebrated 30 years of service to more than 17,000 families who stay at the residence when their seriously ill children are being treated at Albany Med and other area hospitals.
Bernadette Pedlow, senior vice president, hospital COO and longtime RMH board member, thanked RMH for its outstanding work, while its director Jeff Yule reminded those present of the important role Albany Med played in the founding of the facility in 1982 and its ongoing support. The organization is in the midst of a capital campaign to fund the expansion, which includes connecting a third house with nine extra bedrooms to the existing two houses — the result, in part, of the growth of Albany Med.
“The more children who come to Albany Med,” Yule said, “the more families who need our services.”
