Dr. Celmins specializes in cognitive neurology primarily treating patients with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and general memory impairment. As the clinical co-director of the Alzheimer’s Center, Dr. Celmins is dedicated to studying the brain and accentuating the importance of early detection, diagnosis and treatment of memory disorders. For patients already diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias, Dr. Celmins offers medical and emotional support: “I try to explain to my patients and their families what their condition is and how to manage it. My research also helps me better investigate their neurological conditions,” she says.
Dr. Celmins plays an important role in the continuing research of the Neurosciences Advanced Imaging Research Center. Alongside her colleague, Dr. Zimmerman, she conducts clinical trials to help find ways to slow down the progression and eventually prevent these neurological diseases. Dr. Celmins’ comprehensive training is an impressive feat, in addition to her fluency in three languages: Russian, Latvian, and English.
