Oluwaseun (Seun) Adetayo, MD, FAAP is a board certified plastic surgeon who manages the full spectrum of pediatric and adult plastic surgery with additional expertise in pediatric plastic and craniofacial surgery. Dr. Adetayo is the Section Chief of Pediatric Plastic Surgery, and recently established the Cleft-Craniofacial Center at Albany Medical Center.

Dr. Adetayo graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Bachelors of Science with Honors in Computer Science and added minors in Biochemistry and Mathematics from Eastern Michigan University. During her undergraduate education, she received various awards including the Honors Undergraduate Research Award, Outstanding International Student Award, Black Student’s Academic Achievement Award, and the competitive Senior Achievement Award for Academic Excellence in Computer Science awarded to a single graduating senior that exemplified and achieved the highest academic excellence in Computer Science.

Dr. Adetayo then completed her medical education at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine where she received her medical degree. During this time, she received several honors and awards including The University of Chicago Ultman Family Scholars Award, Dr. William F. and Erma Borchers Scholars Award, the University of Chicago Prizker Scholars Award, and the Harvard Medical School Visiting Program Scholar Award. 

Dr. Adetayo then went on to complete her Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Southern California where she was honored with various clinical recognitions and written commendations from the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital and Kaiser Permanente Hospitals. She was also the recipient of several awards including the Frank R. Rogers, MD MBA Academic Achievement Award, and was a two-time winner of the highly competitive J.K. Hardesty MD Best Resident Paper Award given to the resident presenting the best scientific paper amongst all the California medical schools at the California Society of Plastic Surgeons Annual Meeting.

Following this, Dr. Adetayo completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Plastic Surgery and Craniofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh where she also served  in the role of Clinical Instructor in which she was actively involved in medical students and residents’ teaching and education. During her fellowship, she continued in her research pursuits, which resulted in several regional and national presentations including the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons, International Society of Craniofacial Surgeons, American Society of Plastic Surgery, and American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association Meetings.

Dr. Adetayo has served in various institutional and community leadership positions including Co-President of the Pritzker REMEDY Cuba Medical Aid Mission, Chairperson of the Long Beach Rescue Mission, Co-President of the Phi Delta Epsilon Premedical Society, and Coordinator of the Chicago Local Chapter Adolescent Substance Abuse Prevention program for inner city Chicago students. She has been involved in various medical and surgical trips to various countries including, Cuba, Haiti, Nigeria, and Peru. Along with her team, she was awarded a Diploma of Honor conferred by the President of the Congress of the Republic of Peru. She has worked with various international medical organizations including Rotary International, Komedyplast, and The Smile Train.

Dr. Adetayo has received over 20 awards, and her work has resulted in over 40 published works and over 50 presentations at national and regional meetings. Her published works include peer-reviewed publications in leading journals including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal, Annals of Plastic Surgery, Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, and Journal of Neurosurgery and Pediatrics, published abstracts, and book chapters.  She has authored book chapters in the latest edition of Comprehensive Cleft Care, one of the few leading authoritative volumes on Cleft and Craniofacial care, and the Family Edition to Comprehensive Cleft Care, a guide edition for patients and their families.

She has been featured in various newspaper articles and audiovisuals including The Eastern Echo newspaper, The University of Chicago Chronicle, The University of Chicago Magazine, Medicine on the Midway, Albany Med Today, and Times Union Newspaper. She is a recent Award Honoree of the Harvard Medical School Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership (DICP), and was recently selected as a Top Plastic Surgeon in New York by The International Association of HealthCare Professionals (IAHCP), an organization which “limits inclusion to individuals who have demonstrated leadership and achievement in the field of Plastic Surgery.” She was inaugurated in April 2015 into The Leading Physicians of The World, a renowned publication “Recognizing Doctors of Excellence, made up of today’s thought leaders, medical researchers, and educators from top universities.”
