At Albany Med, radiologists, neurosurgeons, surgeons and other specialists have access to the most sophisticated MRI imaging technology available. The Philips Ingenia Wide-Bore 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging scanner was designed to make exams quick and comfortable for patients, while providing the clearest images possible of the human anatomy, thus improving diagnostic accuracy.
Albany Medical Center is the first in the Capital Region to use this innovative technology in the clinical setting.

About the Wide-Bore 3T MRI
Philips Ingenia Wide-Bore 3T is one of the world’s most powerful magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners. With its greater accuracy and image clarity compared to other scanners, patients are provided with the most comprehensive, specialized imaging services available.
The 3T MRI is so precise, doctors are able to detect and define small tumors, tiny issue tears, and intricate blood vessels better than ever before. It also allows radiologists to see more parts of the body and more of the body at one time, including:
- Brain and spine
- Bones and joints
- Arteries and veins
- Abdomen and pelvic area
As a result, doctors can make more precise diagnoses and conduct better pre-surgical planning, resulting in better care for patients.
Designed with Patients in Mind
Developed for a wide range of patients of different ages, sizes and physical conditions, the Ingenia 3T MRI has features that put patients at ease, including:
- 70 cm bore (widest opening available) provides more space and helps to reduce anxiety
- Smart software reduces image retakes, increases consistency and exam speed
- Digital coil design greatly reduces coil weights and leads to less patient repositioning
- Patients can select “ambient images” to project on the wall during exam
- Enhanced 500 lb. table weight capacity to better accommodate bariatric patients
Who is a candidate for the 3T MRI?
The scanner is available to patients with various medical conditions, including:
- Those requiring advanced high resolution neurological imaging of the brain or spine for conditions such as epilepsy, tumors and strokes
- Those requiring a functional MRI (fMRI)
- Those with orthopedic and other musculoskeletal conditions
- Those with conditions affecting the abdomen or pelvic area
