Inpatient Rehabilitation

Stroke

For patients who have had a stroke, the rehabilitation unit at Albany Med is a comfortable, caring environment where patients can regain mobility and improve their ability to function. The unit is the only one of its kind in the region equipped with an acute stroke team available to see patients at all times. The rehabilitation team, which includes physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech and language pathologists, psychologist and a case manager, has extensive experience in caring for patients who have had strokes. Used to aid in the stroke rehabilitation process is the Bioness H200 and MIT robot.

Albany Med was the 11th hospital in the country and the first in New York State to offer the Bioness H200 to patients with stroke. The device uses electric stimulation to help assist in the rehabilitation of the hands of stroke patients.
