The Renal Translational Research Program conducts cutting-edge translational and clinical research that ranges from novel approaches to understanding mechanisms for the development of neointimal hyperplasia in the setting of dialysis access stenosis and biomarker identification in hypertension to clinical investigations into various aspects of hemodialysis access including surveillance for dialysis access dysfunction, peripheral vascular disease and cardiac implantable electronic devices in the dialysis population.
The division has developed a comprehensive Hypertension Program. In addition to providing care to patients with all forms of hypertension including resistant hypertension, the program conducts both clinical and basic research in hypertension and collaborates with all other specialties including cardiology, endocrinology, general medicine and the emergency department. Our nephrology division is engaged with multiple specialties, including the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology and the Albany College of Pharmacy on translational and clinical research. Our outpatient Chronic Kidney Disease Program provides comprehensive renal care to patients with kidney disease.
In order to improve awareness of chronic kidney disease, the program also hosts a free educational program for patients and their spouses and guests by experts on a monthly basis. The Glomerular Diseases Program at Albany Medical College is committed to providing state of the art diagnostic and treatment options for patients with all forms of glomerular and tubulointerstitial diseases such as lupus nephritis, ANCA vasculitis, anti-glomerular basement membrane disease and thrombotic microangiopathy including hemolytic uremic syndrome. Finally, the division has a strong outpatient dialysis program that provides all forms of renal replacement therapies to patients with end stage renal disease.
We will continue to strive to serve our community with a goal of delivering excellence in patient care, conducting cutting edge research and providing outstanding medical education and training to our students, residents, fellows, nephrology nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dieticians, pharmacists and other healthcare providers.
