Dr. Matthew DiCaprio, Director of Orthopedic Surgery at Albany Medical Center, joined ultra-runner Landon Cooper in his quest to raise $300,000 for sarcoma cancer research by running from the west coast to the east coast of the United States in 150 days. Dr. DiCaprio joined Cooper’s team from May 10th through May 12th, running 46 miles over the two and a half day trek east of Denver, CO. As a whole, the team covered 113.2 miles.
The trip was an experience of a lifetime with three genuine, compassionate, inspiring men who are doing great work day in and day out. They give so much hope and positive vibes to those who have been touched by sarcoma. Each day is dedicated to individuals and the families affected by sarcoma. We contact the families to offer our love and support before we run and paint the names of those we run for on our faces before the daily trek begins. Just an amazing journey across a beautiful country with so many stories.
Dr. DiCaprio and Cooper discussed the mission to raise awareness about sarcoma cancer in an interview with Channel 9 News in Colorado.
You can also learn about the story leading up to Dr. DiCaprio’s journey in the May 2013 issue of Albany Med Today.
