At Albany Med, we have the resources available to help children affected by neurological disorders and provide critical support to the families.
A variety of nervous system disorders can occur in children. Some of these are unique to children, such as muscular dystrophy, while some also occur in adults, such as seizures and stroke. Because the symptoms, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment for these conditions are different in children, the special skills and expertise of pediatric neurologists and neurosurgeons are needed.
The Neurosciences Institute at Albany Med is the only hospital in the region that provides pediatric neurology services. A full spectrum of pediatric neurosurgical and neurological disorders are managed at the Children’s Hospital at Albany Med. Specially trained neurologists and neurosurgeons have expertise in diagnosing and treating disorders of the nervous system in children, which comprise their sole area of concentration. Many of our specialists also have subspecialty expertise in a specific area such as epilepsy, muscle disease, headache and movement disorders.
