The Melodies Center

About the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders

The Melodies Center is a member of the Children's Oncology Group (COG), http://www.childrensoncologygroup.org/cog/ the largest national cooperative clinical trials group in pediatric cancer.

As members of COG, our physicians have access to the latest advances in pediatric cancer research and participate in numerous national and international clinical trials. The Child Cancer Program follows the same strict protocols and offers the same advanced treatment and care as all COG member hospitals, providing our children and families the same care they would otherwise need to travel to Boston, Manhattan, or Syracuse to receive.

A dedicated staff of four pediatric hematologists/oncologists, a physician’s assistant, highly trained chemotherapy nurses, pediatric social workers, child life specialists, and the support of all of Albany Medical Center's pediatric subspecialists. We treat 70 new cancer patients per year as well as 500 other new patients with a variety of blood disorders. On any given day, there is an average of eight children receiving inpatient care at the Children’s Hospital and dozens who receive chemotherapy and other treatments as outpatients in The Melodies Center. In a year there are more than 5,000 visits to the Center.
