The Child Life program helps children and families maintain normal living and minimize fears and anxieties during hospitalization.
The Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center offers the Child Life program for hospitalized children and their families. This pediatric health care setting helps to ensure that hospitalized children are able to maintain as normal of a life as possible. The Child Life Specialists are experts in working with the developmental, psychosocial and recreational needs of children. This helps to prevent and reduce any stress associated with hospitalization.
Through Child Life, children are able to maintain self-esteem and a sense of control, in addition to expressing their feelings through a variety of outlets. An interdisciplinary team works with children and their families to promote ongoing child development and growth, and to ensure that children are equipped with the tools to gain a better understanding of hospitalization, effective coping, and better overall adjustment.
