Breast Health Nurse Navigator
Our Breast Care Center has a certified breast health nurse navigator on staff. The breast health nurse navigator serves to improve patient satisfaction and outcomes by fostering education and communication between the patient and every member of the patient care team—doctors, nurses, technicians, and even family members.
If something suspicious is found and biopsy is necessary, our nurse navigator, Barbara Smith, BSN, RN, reaches out to patients to help them schedule and prepare for the procedure. She understands that patients are anxious and helps put them at ease by answering their questions from the first call throughout further diagnosis and, if necessary, the course of treatment.
Smith is adept in breast cancer, self breast exams and treatment options to help navigate a patient through the process of screening to diagnosis to treatment. She is certified by the National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC).
