Learn how to join the Kidney/Pancreas Transplant Program

The transplant program at Albany Med ensures the best care for our transplant recipients and donors. We have a long history of results that have positively changed lives. Mary D., a kidney/pancreas transplant patient, explained her experience:

"Up until I actually had my transplant, I never really understood the way it would impact my life. Now I get it. One day I was a diabetic, the next day I'm not. How cool!
The staff of Albany Medical Center is the greatest... I have total trust in their care. They wanted me to have a better life. I have and will continue to recommend Albany Medical Center to anyone in need of a transplant."

If you would like to learn more about joining the kidney/pancreas transplant program at Albany Med, please follow these steps:

Step 1 - Talk to your Nephrologist
If your physician feels that you may be a candidate for transplantation, please call (518) 262-5176.  Before a formal evaluation appointment, you must complete any necessary tests and attend an education seminar.  Test results can be forwarded to us via fax at (518) 262-5571 or brought to your education seminar.

Step 2 - Attend the education seminar
You will learn about the transplantation process to determine if transplantation is something you would like to pursue by attending the educational seminar.  When we have all the results of your testing, we will contact you to see if you would like to come in for a formal evaluation.

Step 3 - Come to the formal evaluation
You will meet with the transplant surgeons, coordinators, and social workers at your formal evaluation.  A surgeon will discuss the results of your testing with you, to determine if you need further testing.  You may be eligible to be wait listed for a transplant that same day.
