The primary function of the Center for Donation and Transplant (CDT) is to recover, preserve, and transport vital organs to patients on the national waiting list. The CDT is the primary source for organ and tissue donor information in the region that it serves and is available for community and professional programs.

The CDT, one of 57 federally designated organ procurement organizations, coordinates the retrieval of donor organs and tissue at more than 48 hospitals throughout central and northeastern New York state and western Vermont. CDT is a member of the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations, and a member of the United Network for Organ Sharing, which houses the national computer system for patients waiting for transplants.
