Robotic Pediatric Surgery

Albany Medical Center offers robotic surgery to even our littlest patients. At Albany Medical Center’s Children’s Hospital, the most common pediatric robotic surgeries are for the treatment of gallbladder disease and acid reflux.

These robotic procedures result in shorter hospital stays, fewer complications, minimized scarring and faster recovery times in comparison to traditional surgeries. For example, in the treatment of pediatric gallbladder disease, the gallbladder is removed through a very small incision hidden in the belly button.

Our pediatric robotic surgeon, Christine Whyte, MD, leads a team of highly skilled pediatric surgeons. Through collaboration, Dr. Christine Whyte and Dr. Paul Singh developed the pediatric surgery robotic program. Dr. Whyte explained, “Robotics is the technology of the future and I want to make sure we bring this to the Children of the Capitol Region”.
